Taufiq Kamal

2014 Grand Prize Winner

Taufiq Kamal won the grand prize for the BMW Shorties in 2014 with his short film ‘Rozita binti Roslan’. His film also took home the supporting awards for Best Director, Best Sound Design and Best Editing at the BMW Shorties that year. Taufiq is recognised for his ability to use unique cinematographic techniques and in bringing interesting and fresh twists to unconventional stories, a talent that is also seen in ‘Terbit 23’ which was produced with the RM 75,000 production grant from the BMW Shorties competition.

Prior to joining the BMW Shorties, Taufiq worked as a production designer and art director at Seni Lab. Some of his work include television advertisements for KFC, Horlicks and Nescafe, as well as designing sets for films and commercials such as ‘Terbaik Dari Langit’ and ‘Kami Histeria’. In 2019, Taufiq created a digital commercial for Grab which was based on the concept of time travel. The commercial was the talk of the season. Taufiq was also the Art Director for the recent Independence Day advertisement for the TM Group. His recent projects include TV commercials for AmBank, FNN, and Maxis, as well as working on the independent folk horror film, “Roh” as a production designer.
