Quek Shio Chuan
2011 Grand Prize Winner
Quek Shio Chuan graduated with a Bachelor of Communication in Broadcasting from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. His first short film ‘Guang’ won the grand prize award for BMW Shorties 2011 and has gone on to win multiple awards internationally. One of his many achievements include being the first Asian short film to win the Best Short Film Award at the prestigious 6th Alto Vicentino Film Festival in Santorso, Italy.
After the success of his short film, Quek excelled in his career as a commercial director for several renown clients including Petronas, TNB and Volvo. At the end of 2018, he premiered his first feature-length film ‘Guang’, which also had premieres in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and most recently, China. He also went on to co-direct Malaysia’s first Netflix original, ‘The Ghost Bride.’
