BMW Group Malaysia introduces the 18th year of the BMW Shorties with PULSE.

22nd July 2024

Kuala Lumpur, 22nd July 2024– BMW Group Malaysia today announces the return of the BMW Shorties 2024, the premium automaker’s initiative for digital content creation. Celebrating its 18th year running with a new theme – PULSE - the BMW Shorties aims to challenge local content creators in finding new and creative ways to innovate storytelling and pursue their passions in the creative medium.

Sashi Ambi, Director of Corporate Communications and Sustainability at BMW Group Malaysia said, "Last year, the BMW Shorties underwent a transformation, evolving to find new unconventional ways to showcase the exceptional talents of local digital content creators. This, in turn, fuelled us to break through creative boundaries with a reignited passion. This year, the theme 'PULSE', an inspiration from our passion in driving electrified mobility forward and the many first-of-its-kind initiatives here, serves as motivation to keep on driving the newest ideas and concepts for innovation as well as setting new benchmarks and standards. We are thrilled to once again invite creatives to dive deep into their passions, and find the pulse of their craft, creating more deeply meaningful approaches to storytelling."

This year, the esteemed BMW Shorties judging panel will consist of five multiple award-winning judges - Saw Teong Hin (Puteri Gunung Ledang and You Mean The World To Me), Nadiah Hamzah (Motif), Jeany Amir (Bu, Kasih Suci), Tunku Mona Riza (Redha and Rain Town) and Ghazi Alqudcy (Temporary Visa, Letters from the Ends of the World).

“Over the years, the BMW Shorties has consistently uncovered remarkable talents and compelling stories that played a part in driving the momentum of the local creative industry. This year, with the theme 'PULSE,' I am excited to see how our local creatives will dig deep, to uncover the true heartbeats of their creativity and what keeps them moving forward.” said Nadiah Hamzah.

Jeany Amir also shared, “It is a privilege to return to the judging panel this year and to be able to share new and compelling insights that I have gained since my last run of the competition. 'PULSE' as a theme is particularly resonant, as it pushes our local talent to revisit the core of their passions, and how this can be translated through their creation. I am confident that this year will be filled with a vast array of even more captivating and profound narratives.”

Ghazi Alqudcy added, “Returning to the BMW Shorties as a judge is a true honour. My past experience with the competition left me speechless at the remarkable creativity and passion of our young Malaysian filmmakers. This year’s theme captures the essence of filmmaking—constantly moving forward, driven by passion. I look forward to the innovative and heartfelt stories that will emerge this year, as our local talents continue to inspire and challenge us all for the betterment of Malaysian cinematic landscape.”
