Lim Kean Hian
2017 Grand Prize Winner
Upon graduation from Shih Hsin University in Taiwan majoring in Film, Kean Hian joined famous Taiwanese film Director Tsai Ming-Liang’s film company and served as an Assistant Producer and Director’s Assistant. In 2013, he directed a short film entitled ‘The Innocent Desire’, which received a nomination at the 15th Taipei Film Festival. Kean Hian has a long list of work experiences, from working on TV commercials for brands like Watsons to feature films directed by Jack Neo. In 2017, Kean Hian directed ‘Never Was the Shade’ which won the grand prize for BMW Shorties 2017, alongside awards in Best Script, Best Editing, and Best Actor. ‘Never Was the Shade’ has also been nominated in the 2nd Malaysia International Film Festival (Short Film) in 2018. His BMW-funded film, ‘Langit Budak Biru’ was also screened at the Golden Horse Film Festival at the end of 2019.
