2018 Grand Prize Winner
Born to a family of film enthusiasts, Ananth’s interest in filmmaking began at a very early age. A year of travel and a post-graduate Masters in Filmmaking from Kingston University London opened his mind to new experiences, which served to further develop his storytelling ability. Since then, his exposure to filmmaking has only grown. Ananth’s extensive list of work experience stretches from documentaries to short films and commercial work. Not a stranger to the festival circuit, he also participated at the Cannes 2017 Court Métrage with his first ever short feature, ‘Lily White’. A year later, Ananth directed ‘Colourless’ which was awarded the grand prize for BMW Shorties 2018. An inspiring short film on overcoming adversity, ‘Colourless’ also swept the board, taking home supporting awards for Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Design, Best Editing and Best Actress. Ananth is currently an in-house director for Sixtymac Production Sdn Bhd, directing commercials for international brands such as Innisfree. His BMW-funded film, Liar Land, was selected to screen at the Open Doors Screening during Locarno 2020.
